Thornbridge Hall Wedding Photography

Meet Rebecca and Calum. They met through work and after a little persistence – think strategic seating on a leaving meal! – fell in love and were married at Dore Village Church in Sheffield. They held their wedding reception at the breath-taking Thornbridge Hall wedding venue in Derbyshire.  This private, family home was the perfect setting for their wedding and the gardens were idyllic for the unique champagne picnic drinks reception and lawn games.

Our day started at Rebecca’s family home in Sheffield where we were welcomed by John, Rebecca’s dad. He opened the door with a bottle of Mumm champagne ready to crack open! Clearly starting their day as it was meant to carry on – with lots of bubbles! Though I must add, everyone also sipped on some lemon water too to stay sensible!  John and Liz, Rebecca’s parents were so hospitable and kind and our lovely bride too made sure we were looked after. Calum surprised Rebecca with a gift of a pair of dazzling diamond earrings from Raphael, London. They were extra special as they were from the same place Calum had bought Rebecca’s stunning engagement ring and later their wedding rings.  The whole morning was a pleasure filled with lots of pretty thing like Rebecca’s white satin bridal Louboutins. Next, “Rebecca’s favourite”, a chilled bottle of Tattinger, was opened and enjoyed while make-up was perfectly done by Gina Hardwick – who was a joy to work alongside. After photographing the bridal details together and capturing the morning’s fun, Tobiah headed off to meet Calum and his entourage at the pub. I stayed with Rebecca and her bridesmaids along with the adorable flower girl, Alice. The bouquets soon arrived from the amazingly talented team at Swallows and Damsons, who had also created a pretty floral head garland for Alice.

Once Rebecca arrived at the church in a vintage red Daimler following the bridesmaids in an immaculate, cream VW camper van, it was time to get married! The ceremony included some readings by the couple’s close friend and Rebecca’s brother, Ben.   After some hugs, kisses and chatting with guests, the new Mr & Mrs headed to the church gate where the guests had formed to greet them armed with rose petal and lavender confetti.

Upon arriving at Thornbridge Hall everyone had one uniting thought – WOW! This place is amazing.  The variety of areas to use make Thornbridge Hall wedding photography easy and enjoyable. Rebecca’s career is in events and you could certainly see her talents here. Gingham blankets, vintage picnic hampers filled with champagne and lots of local goodies, giant balloons, pom-poms hanging from the trees, reclaimed crates full of Fentimans bottled drinks – what’s not to love!

The soundtrack to this beautiful set-up was provided by Clever Dixie, also known as Lindypop. These guys are insanely good! A swing jive band who twist a range of pop and rock songs in their own unique way. We, along with most of the guests, were impressed most by the lead vocalist-come-trumpet-player’s rendition of Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’. It was awesome. After enjoying the music, champagne picnic and generally amazing atmosphere, we headed down to one of the spotless gardens for some family portraits. We then stole Rebecca & Calum away for a few more shots before heading in for the wedding breakfast and speeches.

The styling in the Carriage House was sublime. Rebecca’s dad and our groom, along with others, had spent the day before painstakingly hanging individual paper lanterns from the ceiling. There were well over 100 of them but it added a real wow-factor to the already stunning space. Old family wedding photographs in mis-matched frames and Diptyque candles sat on top the grand piano in one corner of the room. Again we saw the talents of Swallows and Damsons in all their glory. They had dressed the tables with exquisite centrepieces and the HUGE urn in the courtyard was bursting with a arrangement of fresh, pretty flowers.     After guests enjoyed the delicious food provided by the wonderful Mike and his team from Larkspur St. James caterers, who also looked after me and Tobiah extremely well too, it was time for the speeches. thornbridge hall wedding reception dressed in a vintage stylewedding decorations from thornbridge hall

There is always a sense of horror coupled with wonder when a couple see a projector screen and laptop set up! But both bride and groom got off pretty lightly with the images and videos used in both the father-of-the-bride’s speech and best mens’ by Calum’s brothers Ali and Stu. Both speeches were heart felt and lovely to listen to, as well as Calum’s speech which caused a few tears.  The evening entertainment was provided by another awesome band and the dance floor was packed out. We loved the light-up letters of the couple’s initials in the corner of the dance floor too. Thank you for having us to share in this amazing day with you. We loved every minute!
